Anna Holmlund of Sweden and Mike Schmid of Switzerland again led the way on the second day of the FIS Freestyle World Cup in scross in Innichen/San Candido (ITA) on 22nd December.

On a sprint style course with no banked turns and as a result relatively few passing opportunities, a strong start played a kew role for the winning athletes. In the ladies' event, Anna Holmlund won each and every one of her starts in the course of two days. Ophelie David of France took second ahead of Sanna Lüdi of Switzerland. Julia Murray of Canada narrowly missed the podium placing 4th in the second World Cup race of the 2009/2010 season.

In the men's competition, the Swiss had a really strong showing as behind double winner Mike Schmid, only Audun Groenvold of Norway could challenge the Swiss men in the final. Groenvold took second ahead of Conradign Netzer and Richard Spalinger (both SUI).

Eric Archer, Head Coach for Canada commented, "Any time you have a short and relatively flat course, the field really tightens up. There are few opportunities to pass and it gets rough out there. The guys' heats in particular were really rough as the athletes jockey for position."

The next race in the ski cross FIS Freestyle World Cup will be in St. Johann Austria on 5th January 2010.
