Modern infrastructure for St. Moritz 2017
The Organisers of the 2017 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in St. Moritz (SUI) were very pleased with a voting result last weekend in Switzerland in which the citizens approved the enhancement of infrastructure for the Championships.
On Sunday, 9th February 2014, the population of St. Moritz have placed a clear yes to the credit of CHF 11'950'000 for the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships. It means that the racing infrastructure can be modernised which secures the implementation of the World Ski Championships, in addition the organisation of other national and international competitions, including the regular ladies’ Audi FIS Ski World Cup.
Hugo Wetzel, President of the St. Moritz 2019 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships Organising Committee said: “By successfully implementing the men’s World Cup in early February as a replacement for the cancelled competitions in Garmisch-Partenkirchen (GER), the Upper Engadine region has once again demonstrated its expertise in organising high-scale international competitions. The infrastructure improvements will also allow the region to further position itself as a top winter sports destination in the tourism market.”
