Under a picturesque background of blue skies and snow-capped mountains, the Organising Committee of the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in St. Moritz in 2017 hosted the second Coordination Group meeting. Present were representatives from the 2017 Organising Committee, FIS, Swiss-Ski, The European Broadcast Union and its advertising partner Tridem.

The meeting took place the day after the successful conclusion of the annual ladies World Cup weekend with super-G and giant slalom events staged in front of more than 20,000 spectators.

During the meetings, it was clear that plans for the FIS Alpine World Championships 2017 are moving along well in all areas from infrastructure to marketing. Banners for the 2017 World Championships adorned the streets with the striking gold and blue design that will be used to identify the World Championships.

Last week, the city council of St. Moritz approved a loan for the infrastructure and hosting of the World Championships and on 9th February 2014, local voters will take to the polls to potentially approve a referendum to allocate a budget to improve the entire finish area of the races.

FIS Secretary General Sarah Lewis commented at the conclusion of the meeting, “We are pleased to see that further progress has been made in the last six months. The project team works very well together and has great support from the local authorities and community."

The St. Moritz Organising Committee team has now filled all key management roles with the announcement of Franco Giovanoli joining as the Chief Operation Officer.
