Passing of Francesco Battocchi
At the young age of only 16, Grass Skiing talent Francesco Battochi passed away on 4th January 2014 after battling leukaemia for more than a year. The FIS World Cup athlete was a member of the Italian National Team.
Born in an enthusiastic skiing family, Francesco followed in the footsteps of his older brother Matteo who took silver at the 2012 FIS Grass Skiing Junior World Championships in Burbach (GER). In the same event, Francesco made his international debut and scored an outstanding 18th place in the slalom event, marking his best result in the competition.
The young gun, also a talented Alpine racer in his home country, was an enthusiastic and cheerful person. He will be greatly missed by the Italian snow sports family and his peers on the skiing circuit.
FIS would like to express its sincere condolences to the family and friends of Francesco Battocchi.
