Lahti 2017: Turning old skis into decorations
With less than 30 days until the 2017 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Lahti (FIN), old skis have been turned into lamps, benches and other decorations in a design workshop organised by the Lahti University of Applied Sciences and its Institute of Design and Fine Arts. During autumn, people from all over Finland have donated old skis to the Lahti 2017 Organisers. The Lahti 2017 Organising Committee encouraged people to donate old skis also last year before the test event and the response was overwhelming, leading to this year’s expansion of the project.
The decorations build an essential part of the Lahti 2017 experience and atmosphere and for instance the lamps will be used to light up the atmosphere in the festival arena.
“Sustainability, recycling and togetherness are all important themes in our event organisation. In addition, we invest especially into atmosphere and comfortability of the event. In this design project, we were able to combine both”, explained Marketing Director Esa-Pekka Nykänen.
