Schmid and David win ski cross World Cup in Branas, Sweden
After the cancelation of FIS Ski Cross World Cup on 03.03.2010 in Norefjell (NOR) due to the organizer's insufficient financial resources, ski cross resumed in Branas, Sweden on March 6, 2010.
Switzerland's Olympic champion Michael Schmid, claimed his third win of the season in Branas, Sweden, while also taking control of the World Cup standings. Already being the fastest racer in the qualifiers, the 25-year-old Schmid continued on to the final of the knock-out competition before streaming to gold in the final.
Canada's Christopher Delbosco finished second in the final, while Austria's Andreas Matt took third.
The podium finishers in Sweden also remain in the top three spots in the World Cup standings, Schmid is first with 535 points and Delbosco 11 points clear of Matt in second with 377.
Meanwhile, the ladies World Cup leader Ophelie David scored her second win of the season in Sweden edging closer to her seventh consecutive ski cross World Cup title.
The 33-year old finished a disappointing ninth in the sport's Winter Olympic debut in Vancouver but bounced back in Branas finishing first in the final, followed by Canada's Aleisha Cline and Switzerland's Fanny Smith.
