Season’s first two snowboard cross races

While all other disciplines World Cups of the 2011 LG Snowboard FIS World Cup season are in full swing, it’s time for the snowboard cross racers to kick off their competition winter, too. On December 7th and 8th, Lech am Arlberg, Austria, a first time Snowboard World Cup venue, will host two SBX races. The first will be a calendar highlight as it will be the only snowboard cross held as night final under flood light.

The World Cup debut in Lech is a first check for the current form and an important test on high class competition level before the FIS Snowboard World Championships 2011. Besides the two races at Schlegelkopf, there will be only one more World Cup scheduled in Telluride, Colorado, before the world’s best battle for WCS medals in La Molina, Spain, next January. No wonder that local white hope and reigning World Champion Markus Schairer (AUT) is not the only one having signed in.

On the 1,350 metres long course built by Anders Forsell (SWE), the Austrian talent will face, among other, Nate Holland from the US as well as World Cup crack Pierre Vaultier (FRA) along with fellow Frenchman Tony Ramoin, who claimed Bronze at Vancouver 2010. On the ladies’ side, Olympic Champion Maelle Ricker (CAN), her teammate Dominique Maltais as well as Olympic SBX runner-up Deborah Anthonioz (FRA) are odds-on favourites.

Eurosport 2 will broadcast both races live and in full length starting at 5:40 PM and 12:45 PM, respectively. On December 7th, ORF Sport+ will also air the race live from the quarter finals on (6:05 PM) as ORF 1 does on December 8th from 1 PM on.
