Shouldice and Cheng won Championships aerials
Canadian Warren Shouldice used an historic jump to win men’s aerials gold. China’s Shuang Cheng and Mengtao Xu took gold and silver in the women’s aerials at the FIS Freestyle World Ski Championships at Deer Valley Resort in Park City.
Shouldice earned a perfect score on his second run, vaulting into the top spot. The Canadian landed a lay-triple full-full to capture a perfect score for the triple flip with a layout on the first flip followed by a triple twisting flip and a single twisting flip.
China’s Guangpu Qi narrowly missed the gold on his final jump, settling for silver. Third place honors went to Anton Kushnir of Belarus.
On the women’s side, China continued its dominance at World Championships. Cheng’s gold was the latest in a series of successful results for the Chinese team.
“The last three World Championships we have won the women's aerials gold medal. Now that we have the fourth one, we are pretty excited,” said Cheng
Chinese teammate Mengtao Xu edged out Ukranian Olga Volkova for silver. Volkova settled for bronze.
