Ski Jumping Continental Cup update: Austrians in the lead
Eight competitions of the FIS Ski Jumping Continental Cup have taken place this winter with stops in Rena (NOR), Lahti (FIN), Engelberg (SUI) and Courchevel (FRA).
The team of Austria has taken the lead after claiming victory in five competitions: Michael Hayboeck won the season opening in Rena and scored another two victories in Lahti, while Manuel Fettner and Manuel Poppinger took victory in Engelberg. Slovenia is in second place with Jernej Damjan claiming top spot in Rena and Rok Justin winning both competitions in Courchevel.
In the overall rankings, Poppinger is sitting in first position with 354 points trailed by his teammate Hayboeck, just four points behind, and Fettner following in third position (333 points).
24-year-old Poppinger also demonstrated his expertise at the FIS Ski Flying World Cup in Kulm (AUT) the previous weekend where he competed against the top level jumpers and had excellent results, finishing 12th and 8th.
The FIS Ski Jumping Continental Cup will continue to travel to nine more stops before finishing in Nizhny Tagil (RUS) on 16th March.
