Snowboarding is the newest discipline on the Olympic Winter Games programme, having first been held in Nagano (JPN) in 1998, when giant slalom and halfpipe events made their debuts. Snowboard cross was added in 2006 while Sochi 2014 will see slopestyle join the competitions at the Games. Additionally a parallel slalom will take place in Sochi.

In snowboard slopestyle, athletes are scored after descending a course consisting of rails and a variety of jumps, as they combine big airs and technical tricks into one run.
