Successful FIS Telemark Junior World Championships in Geilo

The FIS Telemark Junior World Championships were successfully held from 22nd-24th March 2014 in Geilo (NOR). In conjunction with the FIS World Cup races, six medal competitions for the world’s most promising youngsters were scheduled in the events of classic, classic sprint and the parallel sprint.

Johanna Holzmann (GER) and Trym Nygaard Loeken (NOR) were the most successful athletes as both were crowned double Junior World Champions. Holzmann raced to gold in the classic and sprint while 20-year-old Loeken claimed victory in the classic and the parallel sprint events in addition to a silver in sprint.  

Holzmann’s victories came as a continuation of her strong performances in the previous seasons where she earned numerous top results. At 18 years of age,, she already possesses a collection of seven Junior World Championship titles next to three silver medals, and earned six World Cup podiums so far.  

Other strong performances include those of Sarah Fiskå Haugen (NOR) and Nicolas Michel (SUI). At her second Junior World Championships Haugen took gold in the parallel sprint and bronze in the classic. Michel won the classic sprint and took double silver in the classic and parallel sprint events.
