World Cup returns to Calgary

And Canada's Olympic Park (COP) of 19988 provides the perfect set-up. It's the fifth time the freestyle cracks visit Calgary, Alberta, after having had competitions in 1995, 1996, 2007 and 2008 - with some good memories for a home country boy. Brad Martin celebrated victory two years ago - with his team mate Jeff Batchelor as runner-up. In addition, the Ancaster, Ontario, resident had a third rank finish in 2007.

This year will bring some great competition with riders from all over the world including China's reigning World Champion Jiayu Liu who enters her first halfpipe contest this year. So far, Liu has earned a full set of podium finishes in Calgary with a first rank in 2008 and one runner-up and one third place finish both captured in 2007.

But besides the mind cracking action to expect at the night finals under flood light in the 22-foot pipe on Jan 30th at 7 PM local time, this upcoming Saturday will also feature the first Slopestyle finals (2 PM) in the history of the LG Snowboard FIS World Cup after the first ever scheduled one in Bardonecchia had to be cancelled due to heavy snow fall last winter.

The Slopestyle is supposed to feature a first set of three different rails waiting to be shredded by the field before entering a kicker line consisting of three different jumps - all of different size.
