2015 saw the introduction of World Snow Day in Latvia. Organised by the Latvian Ski Association the event began with 14 events. In 2016 the event has now rapidly expanded to include over 140 events, across 70 municipalities and over 25,000 participants.

The success of the event is thanks to the good cooperation between all the major snow sports stakeholders in Latvia. Prior to the event, the Latvian Ski Association works in close cooperation with the national school board. An offer is provided to all schools throughout the country, where participating schools receive a World Snow Day package with gifts, giveaways and identities. In exchange, the schools stage a day with free snow sports lessons and snow games. The concept is then teamed up with events at major ski resort throughout the country where children are provided free lessons and lift passes.

Following the conclusion of World Snow Day 2016, the Latvian Ski Association has continued the fun through an art and writing competition. Children are asked to submit a painting or essay to the Latvian Ski Association. A special commission of national athletes is then employed to judge and award the best works.
