David Pommer had his World Cup premiere in his home venue of Seefeld in 2013 but didn't start in the World Cup on a consistent basis until the season of 2016/17. Even though being stopped by a mountain bike accident resulting in a clavicle fracture before the season, Pommer quickly started to compete on a high level, as seven Top Ten results in the course of the winter show. With a fourth rank in Seefeld, he even came close to his first podium result once.
In the same season, Pommer also battled his way to the Austrian team for the World Championships in Lahti and started twice: one eighth position in the large hill event was the reward.
