Akito Watabe wins Japanese national championships in Hakuba

While the World Cup in Klingenthal took place with only two Japanese athletes, the majority of the team was back on home soil and taking part in the national championships in Hakuba with a total of 56 starters. World Cup team leader Akito Watabe won ahead of brother Yoshito and Hideaki Nagai.

"Won the national championship in Hakuba! Always nice feeling in home game ;) Thanks for all support!" the newly minted winner wrote on facebook afterwards.

After the ski jumping part, Yoshito Watabe, who is in a stable, good jumping shape, had been in the lead with 118,5 points, Akito Watabe and Hideaki Nagai shared an intermediate second rank with 117 points.

During the 10 kilometre cross-country race, Akito Watabe set the fastest time on the track and won by a clear margin of 10 seconds ahead of his brother. Hideaki Nagai reached the finish 25,2 seconds after Watabe.
