Armin Bauer won the gold medal at the Italian National Winter Championships which were held in Val di Fiemme this past weekend in the categories of Ski Jumping, Ladies' Ski Jumping and Nordic Combined.

With a great jump of 98 metres, Bauer was holding on to an intermediate third rank after the ski jumping part. Only Giuseppe Michielli and talented junior athlete Daniele Varesco had better jumps with tries of 100 and 104,5 metres. This meant a disadvantage of 22 seconds in Varesco and 8 seconds on Michielli at the beginning of the cross-country race for Bauer.

During the race, Bauer quickly caught up with the leading duo and made the pace from then on. Only Michielle and Lukas Runggaldier who had a brilliant comeback on the cross-country track after a fifth place in the ski jumping part. With 25.14.1, he set the fastest time on the track but was not quite able to keep up with Bauer who crossed the finish line 6,8 seconds ahead of Runggaldier. Michielli, who had to let his opponents go on the last uphill before the finish came in third, 16,8 seconds behind the winner.

Daniele Varesco finished eight in the end but took the gold in the junior category.  He also started in the special ski jumping competition (won by Sebastian Colloredo) where he finished with an excellent fifth place.
