Austrian Summer Grand Prix team set
The Austrian Ski Federation also officially nominated their team for the upcoming Summer Grand Prix. All of the eight starting places were up for grabs last week in Villach where all three training groups came together for a test competition.
Next to national team members Berni Gruber, Mario Seidl and Christoph Bieler, the rest of the places went to Lukas Klapfer, David Pommer, Harald Lemmerer, Philipp Orter and Alexander Brandner.
As Mario Stecher and Sepp Schneider are still recovering from their respective knee injuries, they will not take part in the Summer Grand Prix. Teammate Wilhelm Denifl will not start due to his training plan. Tomaz Druml was really unlucky and caught a bronchitis last week, so the athlete from Carinthia was not able to take part in the test competition.
Youngster Philipp Orter had the same problem two weeks earlier but came out of his illness on top: "Just two weeks ago, I was really out of it because I was sick. Now I am really happy that I was able to get a ticket to the Summer Grand Prix. I was pretty stressed out in the last weeks: I had the final exams of my vocational training and also my military basic training, so it wasn't easy to train in the most optimal way. But I was especially motivated to go to the Summer Grand Prix as we have a home competition in Villach this year!"
Head coach Christoph Eugen was also satisfied: "The motivation for the test competition on Friday was huge. The upcoming competitions are one step in the preparation for and on the way to Sochi 2014. It will be a first comparison to the other nations. But I am also looking forward to test the Coaches' Button which will now also be introduced in Nordic Combined."
