Austrian team back in the saddle
After meeting up for a first planning and analysis meeting earlier this months, training is now in full swing for the Austrian Nordic Combined athletes. The first and second training groups met up for the traditional cycling camp at the beginning of the summer preparation and as usual, the squad was drawn to southernly climes to collect the first kilometres on two wheels in Cesenatico, Italy.
The days up to Saturday night are filled with up to 150 kilometres on the bike and light stretching and mobility exercises on the beach. "For me, the cycling week in Italy always is the starting signal into a new season. Now I know that it is on again and the training volumes will go up", Berni Gruber explained.
Teammate Willi Denifl is still excited even after a couple of tough days in the saddle: "The area here is great for cycling. You are either driving by the coastline or go up into the hilly backcountry. The landscape is so beautiful, it's perfect for training. I am happy that we're finally back at it, we have a World Championship season on our doorsteps after all."
