COC: Fritz, Johansen and Simon on top in Chaux-Neuve
After rank three on the previous day, Martin Fritz topped the result list in Chaux-Neuve on this past Sunday. The Austrian crossed the finish line a clear 39.7 seconds ahead of his closest pursuer, Truls Johansen from Norway and 40.2 seconds ahead of third-ranked Tobias Simon from Germany.
Fritz already ruled supreme on the jumping hill with 113 metres and 126.6 points which put him 6 seconds ahead of Tobias Simon who had landed at 112.5 metres (125.2 p.). Harald Lemmerer and Marjan Jelenko shared the third intermediate position with 106 metres and 112.5 points.
Fast skier and Saturday’s second-placed Thomas Jöbstl ranked ninth after the jumping event with a delay of one minute and 29 seconds but was followed closely by Truls Johansen who is also known as one of the fastest skiers of the field.
Tobias Simon tried to hang on to leader Martin Fritz in the race but was not entirely successful. In the end, Johansen overtook eleven athletes including Tobias Simon in a finish line sprint to capture the second rank, leaving the lowest step of the podium to the German.
Marjan Jelenko and Harald Lemmerer were not able to make a podium position out of their promising starting rank and had to be contend with ranks four and five in the end. Paul Gerstgraser (as the fastest skier of the day with 23:45.0), Thomas Jöbstl, Espen Andersen, Geoffrey Lafarge and Simen Tiller completed the Top Ten.
