COC: Janis Morweiser wins first competition in Klingenthal
Another victory for Germany! After Eric Frenzel was successful in the World Cup in Seefeld, Austria, his teammate Janis Morweiser won the first of two Continental Cup competititions in Klingenthal, Germany. He was the lucky winner after a finish line sprint with the Norwegian Gudmund Storlien. Alexander Brandner from Austria completed the podium as third. Johannes Wasel and Johannes Firn claimed the ranks four and five which made the German team the most successful one on home turf.
After the ski jumping part, Kristjan Ilves from Estonia had been in the lead after a jump of 135 metres but was caught by the pursuing group after about half of the race.
Morweiser, Storlien und Brandner ware able to improve their results from the ranks 10, 7 and 12 and managed to get away from a bigger group of pursuers about 200 metres before the finish line. In the end, Morweiser was 0,1 second ahead of Storlien and one second ahead of Brandner.
Morweiser was very satisfied with his result: "Competition like that give you a lot of momentum and confidence. My jump was really good today and our team result is defintely something to look at. Gudmund Storlien was seeing room for improvement in his performance on the hill: "My jump was not optimal but I am very satisfied with what I did on the cross-country track today." For the Austrian Alexander Brandner, it was satisfaction all over: "The jumping went very well today, I had a good feeling on the hill. The cross-country track was perfectly prepared and luckily, I was able to stay close to the leading group."
