Dvorak takes title at Open Czech Championships
Czech team leader Miroslav Dvorak has once more shown his class by taking the title at the „Friendly Cup“, the Open Czech Championships held in Liberec this weekend. The 27-year-old won the competition of 23 Czech and Polish athletes by crossing the finish line a clear 58.9 seconds ahead of team youngster Tomas Portyk, Adam Cieslar raked in the best Polish result with rank three, finishing 1:10.4 after Dvorak. With overall rank four, Petr Kutal claimed rank three in the Czech Championship standings.
After the jumping part, Tomas Vancura had been in the lead with 129 metres on Liberec’s HS 134 hill at Jested. A total of 129.5 points gave him a 25-second head start on fellow jumping expert Tomas Portyk who landed at 124.5 metres. Adam Cieslar also jumped 124.5 metres but his point total of 120.8 meant starting ten seconds behind Portyk due to his 123.3 point-result. Miroslav Dvorak lay in fourth after jumping and had to make up 36 seconds on leader Tomas Vancura.
With the fastest time on Vesec’s 10 kilometre roller-ski course, this proved to be no problem for Dvorak who needed 25:43.4 from start to finish, putting quite some distance between him and Portyk and Cieslar in the end. Intermediate leader Vancura did not finish the race. The second-fastest man on the track was Poland’s Pawel Slowiok who roller-skied the 10 km in 25:57.1 and improved his intermediate twelfth rank into a final sixth one.
