15-year-old Czech Tomas Portyk won the Gold medal in an exciting Gundersen-event at the 1st Youth Olympic Winter Games in Tyrol. Silver and bronze went to Ilkka Herola from Finland and Go Yamamoto from Japan.

Germany's Tom Lubitz was in the lead after the jumping portion with 78 m, followed by Go Yamamoto and Norwegian Harald Johnas Riiber. Portyk started the 10 km race 31 seconds behind the leader, showed a strong performance and took the lead after half of the race. Finn Herola could keep up, but Portyk then broke away after 7.5 km. At the end Portyk won with 2.8 seconds ahead of his opponents from Finland and Japan.

On Saturday the 39 athletes from 13 nations in ski jumping and nordic combined will experience a premiere with the mixed team competition. In this new format each team consists of three athletes, one male and one female ski jumper and one nordic combined skier.
