Ilkka Herola wins Finlandia Veikkaus Cup in Vuokatti

No big surprises at the Finlandia Veikkaus Cup taking place in Vuokatti: team leader Ilkka Herola took the victory, thought it was his brother Matti who claimed the intermediate lead after the jumping part.

With 95.5 metres, the older Herola started into the race 10 seconds ahead of runner-up Marcus Torni who had landed at 95 metres. Ilkka Herola had 94 metres to show for and went out on the roller-ski track 16 seconds behind his brother. Behind the three athletes, a gap of about one minute and 30 seconds opened before Mikke Leinonen, Karl-August Tiirmaa and Jussi Salo were able to start the pursuit.

And although it was Arttu Mäkiaho who set the fastest roller-skiing time with 25.32.0 for the 12 kilometres and improved from a 12th to a final 5th position, the fight for the podium position was only on between the leading three athletes. In the end, it was Ilkka Herola who prevailed and finished 13 seconds ahead of Marcus Torni and 22 seconds ahead of Matti Herola.

In another competition for the athletes below 18 years of age, which was held at the same place but on an eight-kilometre roller-skiing track, Vili Laukkanen claimed the victory ahead of Santeri Hynninen and Rasmus Ähtävä.
