Italian team for SGP nominated
As the Summer Grand Prix comes closer and closer, the first teams officially announce their starters for the upcoming competitions.
In Italy, sports director Ivo Pertile has called on the quartet of Samuel Costa, Manuel Maierhofer, Armin Bauer and Alessandro Pittin. Especially for Alessandro Pittin who had to suffer through two difficul seasons due to injuries, it is important to rack up some good results again in order to boost the confidence for the Olympic Games in Sochi.
Currently training on the hill in Villach, Pittin is still struggling with the ski jumping part while the shape in cross-country is good. "I have troubles finding a good, central position in the inrun track and so it's hard to find the perfect position for takeoff. Therefore, I am losing speed in the first part of the flight", Pittin sums up the problem.
"My shoulder has also not completely recovered to full mobility, the Friulian continues, "but we're continuously working on it with physiotherapy. A good start into the World Cup winter will be important to gain trust and boost our morale as a team."
As the new season highlight, the Weekend Challenge will also see a first test during the Summer Grand Prix - admittedly more or less just as a calculation tryout behind the scenes - Pittin is also focussing on what is needed to conquer this event. "With the new "formula" of the Weekend Challenge, the gap between top and bottom will increase. But as always, we must try to jump well in order not to lose too much ground when we switch to the narrow skis."
