„It was really a matter of honour for me this winter. I have been waiting a long time to win a jumping round this season“, yellow bib bearer Eric Frenzel commented after his victory in the qualification round / PCR in Val di Fiemme today. At the venue of his World Championship win of 2013, Frenzel showed 132 metres - with 140.4 points the clear win of the day.

Norwegian veteran Håvard Klemetsen followed on rank two with 129.5 metres and 137.2 points which would translate into 13 seconds of delay should the PCR be used in case of bad weather conditions over the weekend. Akito Watabe occupied the third rank with 128 metres which meant 22 seconds to catch up on the track. Teammate Tekehiro Watanabe followed on the fourth rank with a delay of 28 seconds and Samuel Costa had the home crowd delighted with a good jump of 127 metres, rank five in the qualification result list.

A very interested group of athletes formed around the 55-second mark: strong skiers Jørgen Graabak, Fabian Rießle, Johannes Rydzek and Magnus Krog as well as Lukas Klapfer and Bernhard Gruber would all start between +0:55 and +1:14 which means a fast train coming for the podium ranks would most probably be on its way.

As 53 athletes were on start in today’s qualification, three athletes did not make it into the first individual competition: Koreans Je-Un Park and Bong-Joo Kim as well as Estonia’s Kail Piho had the weakest jumps and will have to be spectators on Saturday.
