Oberwiesenthal getting ready for the SGP
Not even two months to go anymore and winter will come back to Oberwiesenthal! Not with ice and snow but with the same suspense and intensity that winter sports fans are used to from the cold season. The 2014 Nordic Combined Summer Grand Prix will kick off on Germany’s highest hill above sea level at the 22th till 24th of August.
In order to make this first international Nordic Combined face-off of the summer a success for athletes and fans at the same time, the planning and preparations are going on for some time now. At the first OC meeting earlier this month, the first step towards a successful summer season start was not also made officially. The District Administrator Ernst Vogel is acting as the patron of the event at the Fichtelberg and Oberwiesenthal’s Mayor Mirko Ernst is taking on the role of President of the Organising Committee.
„Our initial meeting was an important step in our preparations so that the event at the end of August can become a great experience for the spectators and a success for Oberwiesenthal“, the OC’s subsidiary Secretary General, Peter Riedel says.
The construction work on the Fichtelbergschanze will conclude in July and then a new athletes village will hopefully be waiting for the teams. „We would like to offer the teams the opportunity to train extensively on the hill before the competitions start“, Riedel continues. „The reconstruction of the inrun in the previous year and the current construction work on the hill complex will enable the sportsmen to train on an even higher level in the future.“
