OPA: Second Seefeld-win goes to Fabian Steindl
Austrian local hero Fabian Steindl was able to take the victory in the second Individual Gundersen competition of the OPA Cup weekend in Seefeld on Sunday. Steindl crossed the finish line 23,4 seconds ahead of overall leader Terence Weber and fellow Austrian Thomas Wolfgang Joebstl who finished 29,6 seconds after Steindl. Saturday's winner Bernhard Flaschberger did not convince on the jumping hill but skied a strong race to a final fourth rank.
Steindl had already been in the lead after the ski jumping part with a strong jump of 102,5 metres and 119,5 points. This meant a time advantage of 36 seconds on second-ranking German Sebastian Welle who left straight for Val di Fiemme after the race to compete in the Universiade which is taking place at the same time. Welle jumped 98,5 metres which gave him 110,5 points. The intermediate third rank went to German Phillip Mauersberger with 110 points and 38 seconds of time disadvantage to Steindl.
In the race, the 20th cross-country time was enough for winner Steindl to ski an undisputed victory into the finish. Overall leader Terence Weber improved from a fifth to a second rank and Joebstl skied from a ninth to a final third rank. Paul Gerstgrasser set the fastest time on the 5 kilometre course with 12:02.7 and improved an intermediate 30th to a final seventh rank.
For the overall, this means Terence Weber is in the lead with 397 points, chased by Fabian Steindl with 379. Germany's David Welde currently ranks third with 263 points.
The next OPA Alpen Cup will take place in Predazzo from the 11th-12th of January.
