Germany’s Willi Hengelhaupt has also taken the win in the final win in the Individual Gundersen 5 km competition. He finished a clear 36.4 seconds before runner-up Samuel Mraz who extended his medal collection with a silver medal. Bronze went to France’s Theo Rochat who finished 44.5 seconds after Hengelhaupt.

The young German had already been in the lead after the jumping round with a great effort of 103 metres (129.8 p.), putting him 9 seconds ahead of Estonia’s Risto Raudberg who jumped 100.5 metres. With a total of 123 points, Samuel Mraz held the intermediate third rank and had to make up 27 seconds on the leader.

As Raudberg was disqualified due to an early start, Hengelhaupt was left to ski a relaxed race and only needed the sixth-fastest cross-country time to ski an undisputed win into the finish. Samuel Mraz defended his second position against a Theo Rochat who came storming to the front with the fastest cross-country time of 13:17.4 but was strong enough to challenge Mraz for the silver rank in the end.

„Two times gold, one silver - these were great Games for me. I am very proud that I held up under the pressure. The EYOF was a great event and I am taking home many nice memories“, the winner said after the competition.
