Statements about the first competition in Sochi
Eric FRENZEL (GER) - gold
"It feels so amazing, it is so incredible, there are no words to describe. It was a hard race and at the end it was a good race. It is the biggest moment of my life. I think I had only one moment to catch Akito Watabe before the stadium. This was the biggest point today. In the last two rounds I saw the gap was so close, I knew I had to win the race. It was a big pressure for me, I felt really good."
Akito WATABE (JPN) - silver
"I was working together with Eric Frenzel to escape from the big group and we did it. I tried to overtake, but Eric is better than me and I was a bit tired. It is my dream to get gold. I didn't achieve it, but I am really happy. It is a great day."
Magnus KROG (NOR) - bronze
"I was picking up the group a bit faster than I thought I was. I made a good decision before the last round and now I've finished with a bronze. I am very happy. I've wanted to be an Olympic champion since I was a little boy. It means everything to me to take a medal as it only happens once every four years."
Magnus Hovdal MOAN (NOR) - fifth
"I'm not disappointed. It was a really good jump and a good cross country race. On the last lap, the two skiers were better than me (Magnus KROG, NOR and Alessandro PITTIN, ITA). There was nothing I could do. I don't think it's a disappointment. I just wasn't good enough, so the fifth place is good. My goal for the rest of the competitions is the podium."
Alessandro PITTIN (ITA) - 4th
"I'm not happy with my jump. I had better feelings during training. I could have started a few seconds less from the leader if I had jumped better, but I did my best. I didn't have great skis. Norway's skis were better prepared. I didn't think I was going to jump to fourth before the race. Until the last lap I was third, it's a pity I missed it. This is my biggest goal (the NH/10km). I had better chances here. I didn't jump on big hills a lot training, but I'm going to see how it will be."
