Head coach Christoph Eugen’s national team headed for Eisenerz for another training camp that did not only comprise ski jumping and power sessions at the new Erzbergarena but also new impulses. A common trip on a via ferrata lead to the top of the Hochblaser mountain and the necessary cooling off could be done with a jump into the Leopoldsteinersee at the base of the via ferrata.

To top off all of this activity, parts of the team travelled to Heiligenblut to take part in the Glocker Mountain run and bike challenge. Lukas Klapfer and Franz-Josef Rehrl took part in the bike challenge, which led across 17.2 kilometres and 1354 metres of altitude difference. Bernhard Gruber and Mario Seidl started in the mountain run and coach Jochen Strobl and David Pommer were on start in both parts and the combined result.

After his second place in the bike challenge last year, Pommer wanted to try both parts and also this year, he was the fastest on the bike, finishing eleventh, with a time of 58:15. On the next day, after one hour and twenty two minutes, he also conquered the eleventh rank in the mountain run, and finished on the third rank in the duathlon overall, while Strobl finished sixth, second in his age category.

Pommer: “The event was well-organised, bit praise to the whole team and to our sponsor Stiegl for the invitation. I am super satisfied with my performance, especially because it was the first mountain run in five years and I didn’t know the track setting. But with the great signage, I was able to find my way, even when I was at the end of my strength. It was a great weekend and I am happy with my third rank in the overall.
