Team Slovenia: full throttle towards Summer Grand Prix
Fresh off the last training courses in Pokljuka for the cross-country part and Liberec for the ski jumping part, the Slovenian team is now all set for the Summer Grand Prix. "We haven't specifically prepared for the upcoming competittions", head coach Primoz Triplat comments on the training plan. But a goal would be one rank in the Top Ten, one in the Top 20 and one in the Top 30 for the individual rankings. In the team sprint, we try to go for the sixth place."
And yet, Triplat could also raise the bar of his expectations, looking at the great performance of the Slovenian team last summer, when Gasper Berlot and Marjan Jelenko even stood on the podium after the team sprint and Berlot also claimed a podium place in the individual competition in Oberwiesenthal.
The Slovenian colours will be represented by Marjan Jelenko, Gasper Berlot, Joze Kamenik and Matic Plaznik in Oberwiesenthal, while in Villach, Kamenik will be replaced by Mitja Drinovec who will make his debut in the elite class of the sport, having only started in the Alpen Cup so far.
"I think it will be like last year, the best athletes will attend the Summer Grand Prix", Triplat is confident. "The Americans, Italians, Austrians and Germans will attend and probably take advantage of their national quota of 12 starters. The competitions are always good and on the same level as the World Cup."
