TRIPLE venue Seefeld gets World Championships 2019
FIS is pleased to announce that Seefeld, AUT has been elected to host the 2019 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships.
The decision was made: On Thursday evening at the FIS Congress in Barcelona it was announced that the Nordic Ski World Championships 2019 will be held in Seefeld, Austria.
The FIS Council prefered the Austrian bid over the other three candidates Planica (SLO), Oberstdorf (GER) and Almaty (KAZ). Seefeld won in the third ballot with 9 votes ahead of Oberstdorf (8 votes).
"It was a team effort by everyone involved. We have a long journey behind us over the last ten, twelve years and to achieve that with the first bid is fantastic. We asked the Council to give us a chance to host them 2019 and I can promise that the World Championships 2019 will be organized enthusiastically and professionally", said Markus Tschoner, CEO of Seefeld Tourism.
Seefeld already hosted the World Championships in 1964, 1976 and 1985 (1964 and 1976 the Olympic Games also counted as WSC). The last Nordic World Championships in Austria were held 1999 in Ramsau am Dachstein.
Major Werner Frießer is enthusiastic: "Our big dream of a Nordic Worldchampionship in our home is becoming reality. We are sure that eleven years of Nordic Combined World Cups and the successful premiere of the Nordic Combined TRIPLE were the foundation for the acceptance of our bid. We scored with our concept of hospitality. We really are overjoyed right now!"
The Seefeld 2019 team was welcomed back home with a big reception after the FIS Congress in Barcelona ended.
