Watabe wins Italian-Japanese test race
Another venue - another test race. After the Japanese team travelled on to Val di Fiemme to get some more trainings in before the World Cup resumes in Chaux-Neuve, France on the upcoming weekend, they used to opportunity of meeting the Italian team (plus Magnus Moan again) for another test race.
This time, team leader Akito Watabe was successful and beat out his teammate Takehiro Watanabe for the victory. Italy’s Armin Bauer was third.
Takehiro Watanabe won the jumping event on Predazzo’s HS 106 hill with 121 points, ahead of brothers Yoshito and Akito Watabe (120 and 119.5 points). Best non-Japanese athlete was Italy’s Rafaele Buzzi on rank four (109 points).
For Watanabe, this meant a 4-second head start on Yoshito and a six second gap to Akito Watabe. Buzzi already had to make up 48 seconds. In the race, however, Yoshito Watabe was not able to hold on to his podium position and Italians Samuel Costa and Armin Bauer stepped on the gas: the both set the fastest cross-country time of 14:44 for the 6.2 kilometres in Lago di Tesero.
In the end, Akito Watabe won with a clear gap of 44 seconds on Takehiro Watanabe. Bauer entered the podium ranks by finishing 53 seconds after Watabe, closely followed by Buzzi (+0:56). Magnus Moan who ranked eighth after jumping did not participate in the cross-country race anymore.
The winners and all participants received gifts by Pasta Felicetti.
