COC: Aleksander Zniszczol wins in Frenstat
Aleksander Zniszczol of Poland took the win in the second competition of the Continental Cup weekend in Frenstat pod Radhostem.
The Pole, already third on Friday with a very good performance, showed two consistently strong jumps of 101.5 m and won with 247.3 points. For the 22-year-old from Wisla this was the second win in the COC, the first in almost five years. He celebrated his first victory in September 2011 in Trondheim. "I feel great. Both of my jumps were very good. I had more luck and better wind conditions than yesterday, this was the key to my success. I'm very happy now", said the winner.
Local hero Lukas Hlava, who secured the win in front of the home crowd on Friday and was also in the lead after the first round today, finished second. The 31-year-old Czech jumped on 102 m and 100.5 m and scored 242.1 points. "I was jumping very well technically on both days here and my jumps were very stable. Both days were perfect", told Hlava.
Zniszczol's fellow countryman Bartlomiej Klusek had jumps of 98.5 m and 101 m and with 237.4 points he came in third and provided a great result for the Polish team.
Also the Italians, who started the season with the new head coach Lukasz Kruczek, had another successful day after Sebastian Colloredo's second place on Friday. Colloredo and Davide Bresadola finished fourth and fifth today.
Pius Paschke repeated his sixth place from the day before and was again the best German jumper in Frenstat.
Behind the German, four athletes of Slovenia completed the Top 10 on Saturday: Ernest Prislic (7th), Bor Pavlovcic (8th), Rok Justin (9th) and Miran Zupancic (10th).
With his great result this weekend Aleksander Zniszczol now took the lead in the overall ranking of the COC with 223 points. Peter Prevc (200 points) is second, Lukas Hlava is currently third with 198 points.
After a short break the Continental Cup will continue on September 10th and 11th in Lillehammer (NOR).
