COC-M: Austrians sweep the podium in Ruka

After the double victory and four jumpers in the Top 6 on Saturday, the Austrians followed up on this performance in the second Continental Cup competition in Ruka (FIN) and took all three spots on the podium on Sunday.

Elias Tollinger, fifth yesterday, could celebrate his first win the COC today. The 21-year-old was only ninth after his first jump on 130 m, he moved up to the top with 134 m in the final round and a total of 269.5 points. "Everything was perfect today. I was very motivated and knew that I can achieve a good result with a good performance", said Tollinger.

His teammate Stefan Huber had the longest jump of the day in the first round with 139.5 m. With his second jump of 133 m and 267.7 points he took the second place and his first ever podium finish in the Continental Cup.

Philipp Aschenwald, eighth after the first half of the competition, secured the total success of strong team of Austria this weekend in third with his jumps of 134 m and 136 m and 263.5 points. With Florian Altenburger in fifth another athlete of the Austrian Ski Association came in among the best today.

The best Finn on Sunday missed the podium by only 0.1 points. 21-year-old Antti Aalto from Sotkamo might be a disappointed that he missed the Top 3 by such a tiny margin, but the fourth place is still a big success for him. So far a 21st place was his best result.

Slovenia's Anze Semenic, who was not able to defeat his first-round lead with only 120.5 m in the final, finished sixth in this competition. Behind Jan Ziobro of Poland (7th) and Semenic' teammate Andraz Pograjc (8th), another member of the hosting team achieved a Top 10 result with Lauri Asikainen in ninth. Today's Top 10 were completed by Fredrik Bjerkeengen of Norway.

Sebastian Colloredo was second after the first round, at the end the Italian finished 12th, right behind the winner of Saturday's event, Ulrich Wohlgenannt.

After the first five competitions this winter, Slovenia's Cene Prevc, who is currently competing in the World Cup in Engelberg, still leads the overall ranking with 280 points. Elias Tollinger (239 points) is now second, Florian Altenburger follows in third (237 points).

The next stop of the Continental Cup will be Engelberg, right after Christmas (December 27th and 28th).
