COC: Cene Prevc wins opener
Two weeks after the World Cup, the 2016/17 season also kicks off for the Ski Jumping Continental Cup and the winter starts with three competitions in Vikersund (NOR).
The win in the opening event on Friday evening went to Slovenia. Cene Prevc won with jumps of 109 m and 115.5 m and 284.9 points and proved that the Prevc family has to be reckoned with this weekend, not only at the World Cup in Lillehammer. For the 20-year-old from Kranj this was the fourth win in the COC, the first since August 2014.
The Norwegian hosts could celebrate the second place. Tom Hilde, seventh after the first round with 114.5 m, jumped on the exact same distance again in second round and with 282.8 points he came in only close behind the winner.
Jan Ziobro of Poland, with 111.5 m fifth after the first half of the competition, took the third place on the podium with a strong second jump of 115 m and a total of 282.1 points.
Anze Semenic, who missed the podium by only 0.2 points in fourth, and Bor Pavlovcic in fifth provided an outstanding team result for the Slovenes in this winter's first event.
Best athlete of the German team was Pius Paschke in sixth, closely followed by the best Austrian, Janni Reisenauer, in seventh.
Local hero Halvor Egner Granerud was in the lead, ahead of Cene Prevc, after the first round, but with 110 m in the final he finished only eighth overall. Elias Tollinger was also not able to defend his top position in the final. The Austrian was third after the first round and came in ninth, close ahead of Germany's Felix Hoffmann (10th).
