COC: Clear win for Karl Geiger

After the competitions in Iron Mountain (USA) last weekend, the Continental Cup is now back in Europe and continues with three competitions in Brotterode (GER) on the next couple of days.

Local hero Karl Geiger took a clear win in the first competition there on Friday afternoon. The 21-year-old laid the foundation for this success already with the best jump of the first round on 116 m. He defended his lead with 115.5 m in the final and won with 272.2 points. "I'm very satisfied with my performance today. The hill was very well prepared and the conditions were good", said Geiger.

Markus Eisenbichler, sixth after the first round with 114 m, jumped on the same distance in the second round, moved up to second with 259.7 points and secured to double victory for the German team in front of their home crowd. "Here are always a lot of spectators and the atmosphere is great. Now I want to continue to jump well here and then in Seefeld. After that I hope that I'll get the chance to compete in the World Cup again."

The third place went to Austrian Stefan Kraft with jumps on 14.5 m and 113.5 m and a total of 257.3 points. "I'm very satisfied. I won my first COC here, it's one of my favorite hills."

Klemens Muranka of Poland was second close behind Karl Geiger after the first round, with 110.5 m in the final he could not keep up with the German and came in fourth overall. 

Nejc Dezman was the best of the strong Slovenian team in fifth, closely followed by his teammate Matjaz Pungertar in sixth. 

Daniel Wenig of Germany and Austrian Markus Schiffner shared the seventh place. The Top 10 in this close competition were completed by Czech Cestmir Kozisek (9th) and Rok Justin of Slovenia, who was tenth and only six points behind the third place. 

Nejc Dezman remains the leader of the overall ranking of the COC with 615 points. Markus Eisenbichler is now second iwth 424 points, Robert Hrgota (421 points) is third.
