COC: First win for Andrzej Stekala
The 2015/16 season of the Continental Cup starts with three competitions in Rena (NOR) this weekend. The first event was a competition on the normal hill on Friday evening.
The best athlete on the HS 111 was Andrzej Stekala of Poland. The 20-year-old showed the best jumps in both rounds with 111 m and 106 m and took his first ever win in the COC with 277.7 points. So far his best result was a second place in Nizhny Tagil in March.
The second place went to Halvor Egner Granerud with 106 m and 102.5 m and 268.3 points. 18-year-old Slovene Tilen Bartol, with 102.5 m fifth after the first round, moved up to third with 107 m in the final and a total of 262.0 points and achieved his first podium result in the COC.
Only 0.9 points behind the Top 3, the second-best jumper of the hosting Norwegian team, Fredrik Bjerkeengen, finished fourth. Mackenzie Boyd-Clowes of Canada followed close behind in fifth. With Andraz Pograjc in sixht, a second Slovenian athlete achieved a top result this evening.
The German jumpers showed a very good team performance, even though none of them came in on top. Karl Geiger, Markus Eisenbichler, Pius Paschke and David Siegel, who was 20th after the first round, came in on the places seven to ten.
Austria's Thomas Diethart, winner of the 4-Hills-Tournament 2013/14, who was sidelined for a couple of weeks this fall, finished 27th in his first appearance this winter.
