COC: First win for Manuel Poppinger

After their triple win on Friday, two Austrians were also on the podium in the second Continental Cup competition in Engelberg. This time Manuel Poppinger triumphed ahead of Daniel-Andre Tande (NOR) and his teammate Manuel Fettner.

In this close competition, Manuel Poppinger took the win with jumps on 134.5 m and 132 m and a total of 281.3 points. For the 24-year-old this was the first win in the COC.

Daniel-Andre Tande of Norway posted jumps on 130 m and 131.5 m on the "Gross-Titlis"-hill, came in second with 280.1 points and also achieved his best result so far in this competition series.

Only 0.2 points behind, the winner of the first competition in Engelberg, Manuel Fettner of Austria, finished third with 129.5 m and 132.5 m. 

Anze Semenic of Slovenia was fourth, followed by Simon Greiderer, who could not defend his second place after the first round, but achieved yet another strong result in fifth after his podium finish on Friday.

The young Austrian shared this fifth place with Slovenia's Andraz Pograjc. Behind Nejc Dezman, also of Slovenia, Florian Altenburger completed the great team result of the Austrians in eighth. 

Lauri Asikainen of Finland was ninth and with Anze Lanisek (10th) also four Slovenian jumpers were among the Top 10 in Switzerland. 

The second competition in Engelberg went better than the first one on Friday for the Swiss. With Marco Grigoli (27th) and Pascal Egloff (29th) two jumpers of the hosting team reached the final round.

Also the two only 16-year-old Romanians Sorin Iulian Pitea (22nd) and Eduard Torok (25th) scored some points on Saturday. Both qualified for the second round in the COC for the first time in their careers.

With his win, Manuel Poppinger also took the lead in the overall ranking of the COC with 354 points. Michael Hayboeck is second (350 points), Jernej Damjan follows in third (320 points).
