COC: Germans take double victory in Rovaniemi
For the German team the Continental Cup in Rovaniemi (FIN) was definitely worth the trip. After Karl Geiger's win on Saturday, two jumpers of the German Ski Association (DSV) stood on top of the podium on Sunday.
David Siegel, who already achieved a career-best result in eighth on Saturday, could do even better on Sunday and crowned the weekend with his first win in the Continental Cup. The 19-year-old from the ski club in Baiersbronn was third after the first half of the competition with 95.5 m and took the win with his second jump on 97 m and a total of 248.3 points.
After his win on the day before, Karl Geiger confirmed his good shape this weekend and finished second, close behind his teammate, with 94 m and 94.5 m and 247.8 points.
Slovenia's Tilen Bartol improved his performance compared to the first competition in Rovaniemi. With 95 m and 94.5 m and 245.8 points he came in third and achieved already his fourth podium finish in this COC season.
Halvor Egner Granerud of Norway is jumping just as consistent as Tilen Bartol so far. Although he could not defend his lead after the first round and missed the podium for the second time this winter in fourth, he still came in among the best once again.
Behind Norwegian Fredrik Bjerkeengen, Pius Paschke and veteran Michael Neumayer completed the outstanding team result of the Germans in sixth and seventh.
Like on Saturday, Bartlomiej Klusek was again the best Pole. With a strong second jump he moved up from 18th to eighth. The ninth place went to Rok Justin of Slovenia, with Florian Altenburger, the best Austrian could also achieved a Top 10 result.
Tilen Bartol remains in the lead of the overall ranking with 346 points, followed by Halvor Egner Granerud (310 points) and Karl Geiger (305 points).
