COC: Home win for Thea Sofie Kleven
Young Norwegian Thea Sofie Kleven celebrated her first win in the Continental Cup in front of her home crowd in Lillehammer.
In her first appearance in this competition series, the only 15-year-old showed jumps of 92.5 m and 90.5 m and scored a total of 236.5 points. "This is great. I didn't expect to win here today and now I'm very happy", said the winner.
After the first round Austria's Julia Huber was in the lead with 92 m, a jump on the same distance in the final then earned her 235.2 points and the second place. "I'm not disappointed, I'm happy about this second place. I had two good jumps and tomorrow is a new day", told Julia Huber.
The places three to five on the HS 100 went to the German Ski Association (DSV). Pauline Hessler was the best athlete of her team in third with 89 m and 92.5 m and 231.6 points. "I like this hill and I'm very satisfied with my jumping today. I'm already looking forward to the competition on Sunday."
Gianina Ernst and Ramona Straub came in fourth and fifth.
With Anniken Mork in sixth, another jumper of the hosting team finished among the best. The team of Canada also showed a convincing performance. With Nicole Maurer (7th), Atsuko Tanaka (8th) and Abigail Strate (9th) three athletes finished in the Top 10, Natasha Bodnarchuk was eleventh.
The tenth place went to Japanese Ayaka Igarashi.
After three of four competitions this summer, Lucile Morat of France leads the overall ranking with 200 points. Katharina Althaus (160 points) and Julia Huber (117 points) follow in second and third.
