COC: Markus Eisenbichler dominates in Klingenthal
Last stop of the ski jumping Continental Cup in summer 2016 is the Vogtland-Arena in Klingenthal (GER). There the hosting team of Germany could celebrate a double victory in the first competition on Friday afternoon.
The outstanding ski jumper of the day was Markus Eisenbichler. The 25-year-old had the longest jumps in both rounds with 138 m and 140 m and scored a total of 280.1 points. This performance earned the German his fifth win in the past three weeks.
"It went really well for me, although it wasn't perfect yet. I'll take a break on Saturday in order to be able to attack again in the Grand Prix event on Sunday", the currently best athlete in the COC said after the competition.
Eisenbichler's teammate Stephan Leyhe posted jumps of 137.5 m and 127.5 m and secured the second place, but with 249.3 points he was already more than 30 points behind the winner.
The third place went to Jan Ziobro of Poland, who was fourth after the first round with 131 m and earned his spot on the podium with 127 m in the final and 247.2 points.
Only 0.2 points behind the Pole, Elias Tolling was the best athlete of the Austrian team in fourth, closely followed by Mackenzie Boyd-Clowes of Canada, was came in fifth only 1.1 points behind the Top 3.
Veteran Jurij Tepes was the best of the Slovenes in sixth, the places seven and eight went to Vincent Descombes Sevoie of France and Norway's Halvor Egner Granerud.
Jakub Janda (CZE) was third after the first half of the competition, but with only 122.5 m in the second round he lost some ground and finished ninth.
With today's result, Markus Eisenbichler won the overall title of the Continental Cup of the 2016 summer season already before the final event on Saturday. He leads the overall ranking with 618 points ahead of Rok Justin (417 points) and Jan Ziobro (378 points).
