COC: Rok Justin wins after one round
The men's Continental Cup season ends this weekend with two competitions in Nizhniy Tagil (RUS). The first competition on Saturday was decided after only one round. Due to difficult weather conditions with wind and snowfall the jury canceled the final round.
Slovenia's Rok Justin took the win in this competition with his jump on 129 m and 122.9 points. For the 20-year-old this was already his fourth win this winter and for him the conditions weren't a big problem. "There will always be some wind so you have to be focused and jump."
Manuel Fettner of Austria showed the longest jump of the day with 134 m. But he had better wind conditions than Justin and so he came in only second with 116.5 points. "Yesterday I didn't have any brilliant jumps but today I'm satisfied. I had not the best telemark and I'll try to improve that tomorrow", said Fettner.
The third place went to local hero Mikhail Maksimochkin of Russia, who jumped on 126 m with a one-gate longer inrun than the two top ranked athletes (113.9 points). "I get prepared for each jump and I still feel a rush of adrenalin. I'm happy that I was among the best today."
Austrian Markus Schiffner was fourth, followed by the second-best Slovene, Cene Prevc, in fifth. Besides Fettner and Schiffner, Elias Tollinger in sixth and Florian Altenburger in ninth provided a very good team result for Austria.
With Daniel Wenig and Danny Queck the seventh and eighth place went to Germany. Robert Hrgota was tenth, and with Ernest Prislic in eleventh and Miha Kveder in 13th, Slovenia also showed yet another strong team performance.
Overall win to Fettner
With his second place on Saturday, Manuel Fettner secured the overall win of the COC already before the season's final competition. With 803 points he leads the ranking ahead of Nejc Dezman of Slovenia (731 points), who is not competing in Nizhniy Tagil. Rok Justin is third with 689 points and can't close in on Fettner with only one more competition to go.
The second competition in Nizhniy Tagil will take place on Sunday at 8:00 am CET and can followed in the live stream:
