Norway's Daniel Andre Tande won the qualification for the opening event of the 65th 4-Hills-Tournament in Oberstdorf this evening. Under perfect weather conditions the 22-year-old showed a jump of 139 m (157.5 points). Poland's Kamil Stoch (137.5 m; 154.1 points) and Austrian Stefan Kraft (136 m; 151.1 points) came in second and third and so three of the top favorites proved their currently great shape.

"I had a great feeling today. We have been here for some training camps, so I know this hill quite well. Today everything worked out very well for me, of course I hope I can continue performing on this level tomorrow. It's great that so many fans came to see the qualification, it makes it a lot of fun to jump here. Tomorrow we'll see what the outcome will be if I can show two such good jumps in the competition", Tande said after his success.

"It's always very nice here in Oberstdorf with such enthusiastic spectators. It feels great when you are at the start, see the crowd and hear them scream. Tomorrow I have to focus on my jumps and especially my technique, then we'll see the result afterwards", said double Olympic champion Kamil Stoch, who was impressed by the atmosphere in the Erdinger Arena in Oberstdorf.

Manuel Fettner (AUT), Maciej Kot (POL) and, to the joy of the 14 200 fans, the two Germans Markus Eisenbichler and Stephan Leyhe followed on the places 4, 5, 6 and 7.

Besides Eisenbichler and Leyhe, 7 other German athletes made the cut in the qualification and so a total of nine Germans will get to participate in the first competition of the 65th 4-Hills-Tournament. "The jump was actually pretty good, but I'm annoyed by the landing. I just can't be satisfied with such a landing", Markus Eisenbichler explained his jump.

The eighth place went to 17-year-old top favorite Domen Prevc of Slovenia, who had problems on the HS 137 hill in Oberstdorf in training, but got better during the course of the day. "I still have a lot of room for improvement in my jumps, there's still a lot of work left to do. The atmosphere here in Oberstdorf is really great", Domen Prevc said after the qualification.

After their strong performances today, Michael Hayboeck (AUT), Peter Prevc (SLO) and Andreas Kofler (AUT) are also among the favorites for the opening competition, which starts on Friday at 4:45 pm CET.
