FIS Nordic World Championships 2019 in Seefeld
The decision was made: On Thursday evening at the FIS Congress in Barcelona it was announced that the Nordic Ski World Championships 2019 will be held in Seefeld, Austria.
The FIS Council prefered the Austrian bid over the other three candidates Planica (SLO), Oberstdorf (GER) and Almaty (KAZ). Seefeld won in the third ballot with 9 votes ahead of Oberstdorf (8 votes).
"It was a team effort by everyone involved. We have a long journey behind us over the last ten, twelve years and to achieve that with the first bid is fantastic. We asked the Council to give us a chance to host them 2019 and I can promise that the World Championships 2019 will be organized enthusiastically and professionally", said Markus Tschoner, CEO of Seefeld Tourism.
Seefeld already hosted the World Championships in 1964, 1976 and 1985 (1964 and 1976 the Olympic Games also counted as WSC). The last Nordic World Championships in Austria were held 1999 in Ramsau am Dachstein.
This decision means that the ski jumping events 2019 will take place at two different venues. While the World Champions on the normal hill will be crowned in Seefeld, the competitions on the large hill will be carried out in Innsbruck.
