German top athletes will be competing in Wisla
A team of seven athletes with all the top jumpers will represent the German Ski Association (DSV) in the opening event of this year's FIS Grand Prix in Wisla, Poland next weekend.
Besides the team Olympic Champions of Sochi, Severin Freund, Andreas Wank, Andreas Wellinger and Marinus Kraus, also Richard Freitag, Karl Geiger and Markus Eisenbichler will compete on the Adam-Malysz-hill.
"We are looking forward to the Summer Grand Prix in Wisla. The currently best German ski jumpers will be in Poland and therefore we are very interested to see the results of these first international competitions", head coach Werner Schuster is quoted in a media release of the DSV. "Over the last months we had an intense training period during which we were working on two different aspects. On the one hand the athletic part, and on the other hand we were also focusing on the feeling during the jump and flying skills. Due to the changes of the rules we also did some equipment testing."
Ski flying World Champion Severin Freund is also looking forward to the first competitions after a four-months break. "Compared to last summer, I had a lot less problems in this training period. My back is stable, I can train well and feel fit. Although I couldn't achieve top results in Wisla so far, I like jumping on this hill. Maybe I will be able to do well there this time. After the strong performances of Kamil Stoch last winter the atmosphere will be good. I expect a lot of fans and they will turn Wisla into a ski jumping festival. I'm really looking forward to this weekend and I'm curious to see where I stand compared to the international field after the training so far."
