Good news from Severin Freund
All is going well for Severin Freund at the moment. A few days ago, the 30-year-old 2014/15 overall World Cup winner became the father of a daughter and the World Champion is also making good progress when it comes to Ski Jumping after his long break due to injury.
Review: Freund sustained an ACL tear in July 2017 during a training session in Oberstdorf and missed the entire Olympic season.
Now, Freund is back in training for a couple of weeks and the athlete from Rastbuechel has also already started jumping again. First, he started on small hills, now he is back on the large hills again training together with his teammates Wellinger, Geiger and all the others.
The veteran doesn't want to put any pressure on himself regarding the comeback. There are currently three possible dates for the return of Severin Freund to the World Cup circuit: If everything goes perfectly, he might be able to compete already in the World Cup opening in Wisla (POL) mid-November, the second option is the start of the 4-Hills-Tournament late December in Oberstdorf (GER), the third possibility is a comeback at the Nordic Ski World Championships in Seefeld (AUT).
At what point Freund will finally be able to compete in the World Cup again will depend on the progress he makes in training. It seems clear that Severin Freund will not return to the international stage before he can live up to his potential, which means when he is able to achieve top results again.
