Janne Happonen has decided to end his ski jumping career.

The Finn, who often had to struggle with serious injuries, competed in the World Cup for the last time in January 2014 in Zakopane. In fall 2014 he had to undergo yet another knee surgery and after that it was not possible for him to make a successful comeback.

"The injury was too serious, I couldn't get in a top shape again", Janne Happonen said to the Finnish newspaper "Savon Sanomat".

The 31-year-old made his debut in the World Cup in November 2001, achieved a total of seven podium finishes and took three wins, the last one in March 2008 in his home town Kuopio.

At the Olympic Games 2006 in Torino, the 2002 Junior World Champion took Silver with the Finnish team, at Ski Flying World Championships he won a total of three medals in team competitions.
