Jernej Damjan surprises at Slovenian nationals
Jernej Damjan provided a surprise at the Slovenian ski jumping championships and took the title on the large hill in Planica on Thursday.
The 33-year-old, who had to undergo two knee surgeries this year, showed the best jumps in both round with 135 m and 135.5 m and won the competition with 268.4 points. "Surprise, surprise! I knew I was jumping good, but this was a bit unexpected", the new Slovenian champion wrote on his facebook page.
The big favorite and overall World Cup leader Domen Prevc came in second with 132 m and 133 m and 258.0 points. Only one point behind, Nejc Dezman finished third with his two jumps of 132.5 m.
The place four to six went to Tine Bogataj, Anze Semenic and Aljaz Osterc. Peter Prevc and Jurij Tepes did not take part in this competition.
Domen Prevc, Cene Prevc, Ziga Jelar and Nejc Dezman took the title in the team event for the SK Triglav 1 with 992.5 points. The second place went to SSK Sam Ihan 1 (Jernej Damjan, David Krapez, Miha Kveder, Tilen Bartol) with 974.1 points, followed by the local heros of ND Ratece Planica (Bor Pavlovcic, Rok Tarman, Anze Lavtizar, Lojze Petek; 919.1 points).
The ladies' competition was won by Maja Vtic with 131.5 m and 131 m and 245.5 points. Ema Klinec (126 m and 130.5 m; 238.2 points) and Eva Logar (125 m and 121 m; 214.3 points) came in second and third.
Jernej Damjan to the 4-Hills,, Pograjc injured
Jernej Damjan, whose last World Cup competition was the 2015 season final, already got his place on the Slovenian team for the 4-Hills-Tournament before this national championships. Besides the 33-year-old, the three Prevc brothers, Domen, Peter and Cene, Jurij Tepes, Anze Semenic and Rok Justin are on the team of head coach Goran Janus for the first highlight of the winter.
Bad news recently came from Andraz Pograjc. The 25-year-old, last Sunday eighth in the Continental Cup in Kuusamo, sustained an ankle injury during training earlier this week. He already underwent surgery and will be out for the rest of the season.
