Michael Hayboeck the best in the qualification
Michael Hayboeck won the qualification for the third competition of the 4-Hills-Tournament in Innsbruck. With a jump on 127 m and 128.1 points the Austrian came in ahead of Domen Prevc and Anders Fannemel. 4-Hills leader Peter Prevc didn't take part in the qualification and will therefore jump against Hayboeck in the K.O round on Sunday.
The youngest participant of this 4-Hills-Tournament, Domen Prevc, jumped on 126 m and missed the win in the qualification and the duel with his brother by only one point. World record holder Anders Fannemel showed the longest jump in the qualification round with 130.5 m and scored 125.2 points. The fourth place went to defending champion Stefan Kraft with 123.5 m and 124.5 points, Johann Andre Forfang finished fifth with 124.5 m and 123.4 points.
Freund only sixth
0.1 point behind, Oberstdorf-winner Severin Freund was sixth, his teammates Richard Freitag (122.8 points) and Stephan Leyhe (120.2 points) came in seventh and eighth and provided a good result for the German team. Roman Koudelka, with 118.8 points the best Czech in ninth, and Noriaki Kasai (118.6 points) in tenth completed the Top 10. Daiki Ito and Taku Takeuchi tied for eleventh and confirmed the good shape of the Japanese.
Behind Kenneth Gangnes, his teammate Joachim Hauer and Kamil Stoch tied for 14th. As a side note: With Stefan Hula and Jan Matura on a shared 16th place and Lukas Hlava and Junshiro Kobayashi in 28th, there were four ties in this qualification. In case of a tie, the seeding for the K.O duel in the first competition round is done on basis of the current overall World Cup standing.
Ammann and Descombes qualified
Four-time Olympic champion Simon Ammann qualified in 23rd, Finland's Ville Larinto was 26th. Vincent Descombes Sevoie also qualified for the third leg of the 4-Hills-Tournament in 31st. Gregor Schlierenzauer was 41st and will also get to compete on his home hill. Michael Glasder came in 48th and will represent the USA in the competition. Tom Hilde and Dawid Kubacki, two jumpers will compete against each other in the K.O. round, who both started this season's Tour late. In a Japanese duel, Junshiro Kobayashi will face Taku Takeuchi.
Schlierenzauer vs. Kasai
Local hero Gregor Schlierenzauer will have to jump against the fan favorite Noriaki Kasai. Severin Freund will face Denis Kornilov. In only his second 4-Hills competition, Elias Tollinger can look forward to jumping against defending champion Stefan Kraft. Domen Prevc is challenged by Daniel Andre Tande. The final duel of the first round will then be Michael Hayboeck vs. Peter Prevc.
The competition of the Bergisel in Innsbruck will start on Sunday at 2:00 pm CET.
